Incoming 6th Grade Info

Advisory is a consistent class period (the teacher is the advisor) to help students learn to organize, stay caught up on work, and get ready for their day.

• Based on grade level
• Same advisory for 6th through 8th grade
• Meets daily:
  • Monday: Grade check/binder clean out; start social-emotional learning lesson
  • Tuesday: Wolf Pack Time (study hall)
  • Wednesday: Social-emotional learning lesson
  • Thursday: Wolf Pack Time (study hall)
  • Friday: Friendship Friday

Contact Your Student's Advisor if:

• Your student needs some TLC for the day
• Your student is struggling in multiple classes

• You have a question about their specific class
• Your student is struggling in their specific class

Each student is assigned a school counselor. When you receive your schedule in the fall, you will recognize your counselor's name on your schedule under 7th period (you do not actually have a 7th period class). Your counselor is here to help students transition to middle school and process peer, friendship, and bullying issues.

Skyward Family Access is our student data center, which includes grades and attendance. 

• Check frequently (weekly), and set alerts for missing assignments, grade threshold, attendance, etc.
• Make sure your contact information is correct (contact the office with changes)
• Sign up for teacher conferences

Canvas is our Learning Management System (LMS) and it is where teachers keep track of progress through the class, assign and accept assignments and being to collect and correct assignments (where final grades are transferred to Skyward Family Access).

Guardians can become 'observers' of their students in Canvas to watch progress, but the most accurate representation of a student's grade is reported in Skyward Family Access.

In the fall, please check your student's schedule to make sure they are assigned the correct music class.

Music classes are a year-long commitment, and students must remain in the class for both semesters.

Student schedules will be available in the fall.

Check their schedule to make sure they have all their core classes (math, science, English, and social studies). Schedule changes will only be available for students who are placed in an incorrect class or are missing a class (i.e., band instead of orchestra, missing a math class, etc.).

If you have questions about special education status or need assistance, please contact your current case manager.

School Supply List

• Label supplies (i.e., label math notebook STUDENT NAME/Math)
• Check backpack weight frequently - students carry them to and from class all day
• Please check in with your student periodically to refill supplies throughout the school year

Komachin students receive a planner free (if they lose their first copy, replacements cost $5)

• Use every day in all classes
• Write down all homework assignments
• Utilize the planner at home too
• Check in with your child daily
• Great communication tool (parent reminders for student, appointments, etc.)
• Have a planner yourself? Share it with your student!

• Distributed in the fall
• Must be in the case at all times
• Used for academics
• Charge every night and bring every day
• Chargers should stay home ($20 to replace)
• No stickers, gum wrappers, or writing allow on the Chromebook or cases

• $10 assurance fee charged to each student to cover routine problems
• Repeated or purposeful damage or lost devices will incur additional cost to repair or replace
